This training programme is intended for operators who are responsible for transporting water for construction plant operations, in alignment with legislation, safe mechanical handling and vehicle safety requirements. Our Operate a Water Cart course is designed for novice and experienced learners; it covers planning and preparation for work and the safe and effective operation of the water cart for a range of tasks.
Operators need to perform within a defined range of skilled operations, usually as part of a range of broader related activities involving construction plant routines, methods and procedures, where discretion and judgement are required.
Requirements & Details:
Participants must be a minimum of 17 years of age to sit the assessment, and be proficient in English
Photo ID, and wear appropriate clothing and closed in shoes
A short literacy and numeracy test will be required
Assessment type: Theory and Practical
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and a plastic industry wallet card issued ( onsite operator license)
Course Outline:
This internationally recognised training course gives participants the necessary skills and knowledge to safely and efficiently operate a Bulk Water Truck and work in a range of different working environments including earthmoving, civil construction industries.
- conducting prestart and start-up checks prior to commencing operations
- driving and manoeuvring bulk water vehicle, and adjusting techniques to suit work conditions
- operating bulk water vehicle within equipment operating capacities
- positioning bulk water vehicle for loading, carrying and discharging/distributing water
- relocating the vehicle from site to site
- carrying out machine operator maintenance
- clean up work area after operations

Basic mechanical appreciation of water carts
We outline the systems of engine lubrication, cooling, fuel, electrical and hydraulics, as well as transmission and drive train, automatic transmission and torque converter, torque converters, transmission and the brake system, explaining how they are integral to the water cart’s functioning.

We take the learners through fundamental rules, lights, emergency red triangles, the dangers of reckless/negligent/inconsiderate driving (either under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs or not), use of roads and freeways, divided roads, general speed limits, passing and overtaking, crossing roads and lanes, hindering traffic flow, traffic lanes, stopping, parking, conveying goods, pedestrians, collisions/accidents, damage to the road, emergency vehicles and general duties of drivers and passengers.
